Before initiating an account transfer with our electronic ACATS Transfer system, you'll need to open a like account at tastytrade first. For example, if you're transferring a Roth IRA to tastytrade, then you need to open a Roth IRA at tastytrade before you can initiate an accounts transfer. When your account is approved and opened, you can start with getting your account transferred to tastytrade.
At this time, futures or cryptocurrencies (digital currencies) cannot be transferred to tastytrade.
You'll need to gather up some things
To glide through our electronic ACATS system, you'll want to have the following items and pieces of information on-hand.
- The account number of the brokerage account you are transferring (Step #2)
- You will also need to know the username and password of your old brokerage account (Step #3)
- Download or scan your most recent brokerage statement (Step #5)
Select the account from the dropdown
If you have more than one trading account at tastytrade, then click the MORE icon next to the Current Account label to view all of your accounts. In this example, we will be using a Roth IRA.
Enter the account number of the account you are transferring
In this step, this is where you'll need to have the account number of the brokerage account you are transferring. Here, you will enter your name, select the Account Type, enter your account number, and confirm your account number.
- Title of Your Account: Enter your name
- Account Type: Select the account type you are transferring
- Account Number: Enter the account number of the brokerage account you are moving to tastytrade.
- Confirm Account Number: Re-enter your account number to confirm
Locate the brokerage you are transferring from and enter your account credentials
In Step 3, click LINK YOUR BROKERAGE ACCOUNT to view a list of brokerages.
If you do not see your brokerage listed, then you may search for your brokerage in the Search field. Once you locate the brokerage you are transferring from, select it. However, if the brokerage you are transferring from is not listed after searching, then please click I CAN'T FIND MY BROKERAGE. You will need to submit an ACATS Form to our accounts team. After locating and selecting your brokerage, click Continue.
Now, this is where you will enter the username and password of the brokerage you are transferring. After entering your user information, click Submit, and the system will retrieve your account details.
If your user credentials are linked to multiple brokerage accounts, then locate the account you wish to transfer. Since we are moving a Roth IRA account in this example, we will select it and click Continue.
The window above will disappear after clicking Continue, and after a short moment, the account you wish to move will display in place beneath Step 3.
Choose All Assets or Partial
In this step, you will have the choice of transferring your entire account or only moving a portion of your account.
To transfer all assets...
To transfer your entire account to tastytrade, click Transfer all assets in kind.
To do a partial transfer...
However, if you only wish to transfer a portion of your account, then click Partial Transfer. After clicking Partial Transfer, you will see a list of your positions where you can select cash and/or positions, as well as indicate how much of each position, including cash, you wish to transfer.
Upload your most recent monthly statement
Lastly, download a copy of your most recent monthly statement from the brokerage account you are transferring. Once you have that file, click UPLOAD A RECENT ACCOUNT STATEMENT and locate the file on your computer. The statement will upload after you find and open it in your file directory.
After your statement uploads, click Review ACAT to view your ACAT Request. After reviewing, please electronically sign your ACATS form using your mouse by clicking and dragging your cursor in the signature box, as illustrated below. After signing electronically, click Submit.
Customers transferring an individual margin, individual cash, or IRA account to tastytrade
Customers looking to transfer an individual margin, individual cash, Roth IRA, or Traditional IRA from another broker may use our electronic ACATS Transfer system. To start the account transfer to tastytrade, please sign in to your account at tastytrade.com, navigate to My Money>Deposits, or click here for a shortcut, and then click the By ACAT tab. International customers may also electronically transfer individual cash or individual margin accounts electronically.
Customers looking to transfer any other account type
Customers looking to transfer a joint account or an entity account, such as an LLC or trust, to tastytrade must fill out an ACATS Form. For instructions, please click here.
